From GH Terklbauer up the road to the Schaidasattel. Now turn left along the marked trail 623 "Simon-Rieger-Steig", which leads from the Schaidasattel towards Hochobir through beautiful forest upwards. In the process, a forest road is crossed 8 times before it goes back into the forest. Continue in the forest until you reach flatter alpine pastures. Here you will soon see the summit of Hochobir. Through gentle terrain to the right around the offshore hilltop of the Kuhberg, until you meet the path from the Eisenkappler hut at the ruins of the Rainer shelter. From here left steeper uphill in 10 min to the summit of Hochobir (3h from Schaidasattel).
From the summit back to the ruin, past it on the left, southeast over grassy ridges, later forest, on well-marked easy trail to the Eisenkappler hut (1h from the summit).

10 recommendations of the PES
As a nature sport, mountain hiking offers great opportunities for health, community and experience. The following recommendations of the alpine associations serve to make mountain hikes as safe and enjoyable as possible.
1. healthy in the mountains
Mountain hiking is an endurance sport. The positive stress stimuli for heart and circulation require health and a realistic self-assessment. Avoid time pressure and choose the pace so that no one in the group gets out of breath.
2. careful planning
Hiking maps, guide books, the Internet and experts provide information about length, elevation gain, difficulty and current conditions. Always tailor tours to the group! Pay special attention to the weather forecast, as rain, wind and cold increase the risk of accidents.
3. complete equipment
Adapt your equipment to your undertaking and make sure your backpack is light. Rain, cold and sun protection always belong in your backpack, as well as a first aid kit and cell phone (Euro emergency call 112). A map or GPS can help you find your way.
4. suitable footwear
Good hiking shoes protect and relieve the foot and improve the surefootedness! Make sure they fit perfectly, have a non-slip treaded sole, are waterproof and lightweight.
5. surefootedness is the key
Falls, as a result of slipping or tripping, are the most common cause of accidents! Note that too much speed or fatigue will greatly affect your surefootedness and concentration. Beware of falling rocks: by walking carefully, you avoid hitting rocks. 6.
6. stay on marked paths
In pathless terrain, the risk of disorientation, falling and falling rocks increases. Avoid shortcuts and return to the last known point once off the trail. Often underestimated and very dangerous: steep old snow fields!
7. regular breaks
Timely rests are for recreation, enjoying the scenery, and socializing. Food and drink are necessary to maintain performance and concentration. Isotonic drinks are ideal thirst quenchers. Granola bars, dried fruit, and cookies satisfy hunger along the way.
8. responsibility for children
Note that variety and playful discovery are paramount for children! In passages with a risk of falling, an adult can only supervise one child. Very exposed tours that require prolonged concentration are not suitable for children.
9 Small groups
Small groups ensure flexibility and allow for mutual help. Inform familiar people of destination, route, and return. Stay together in the group. Beware of lone hikers: even minor incidents can lead to serious emergencies.
10. respect for nature and environment
To protect mountain nature: do not leave litter, avoid noise, stay on trails, do not disturb wild and grazing animals, leave plants untouched and respect protected areas. To get there, use public transportation or carpool.
Packing list - multi-day hike
Since this stage, like the stage before it (from Koschutahaus to Schaidasattel), is not as long on its own, hikers with a lot of stamina can also combine these two stages; in this case, however, you have a long, ten to eleven hour hike ahead of you.
